The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) is calling on all of the nation’s health insurers and pharmaceutical benefit managers (PBMs) to immediately remove/waive any administrative barriers on pharmacists and patients for access to early medication refills from their pharmacy of choice to ensure patients have the medications necessary for chronic diseases to address their needs during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) submitted comments to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division addressing the impact vertical mergers are having on the pharmacy supply chain, medication pricing and patient access and choice. Vertical mergers, which combine two or more companies that operate at different levels in the same supply chain, have created a highly concentrated marketplace where only a few large Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM) control about three-quarters of all prescription claims, and integrated health care systems restrict access.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Academy of Pharmacy Practice & Management (APhA–APPM) today announced the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) election slate for the 2019 APhA Elections. The APhA–APPM SIGs are member-driven groups focused on key areas of interest. Eight of the current 10 SIGs will hold an election in 2020.
