The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) applauds the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) on its new consensus report Taking Action Against Clinician Burnout: A Systems Approach to Professional Well-Being that was publicly released on October 23, 2019.  The report outlines six goals that stakeholders should pursue to prevent and mitigate health care clinician burnout and foster professional well-being.

In the wake of multiple reports of substandard medical care at migrant detention centers in the United States [see citations below], the APhA Board of trustees has issued the following statement decrying the conditions at these centers.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) announced that it has received approval from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) to provide a professional development program for the recertification of Board-Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacists (BCSCP). APhA will provide recertification credit from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2022, and will offer at least 45 credit hours per year.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) will host the 2019 Joint Federal Pharmacy Seminar (JFPS 2019) October 27–30, 2019 in Dallas. JFPS 2019 will focus its education and training sessions on health and readiness, with an emphasis on ensuring that service members are mentally and physically prepared to conduct all military operations.

Next Tuesday marks the first day of October and the start of American Pharmacists Month (APhM), a celebration in support of pharmacists around the country. While the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has always celebrated the accomplishments of pharmacists, the Association officially launched American Pharmacists Month in 2004. Since then, APhA has used October to recognize pharmacists’ contributions to health care and all they do for their communities.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has launched a search for the Association’s next Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer. Earlier this year, EVP/CEO Thomas E. Menighan, BPharm, MBA, ScD (Hon), announced his retirement, effective at midyear 2020.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) announced a call for candidates in the 2020 APhA Board of Trustees, APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APhA-APPM), and APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science (APhA-APRS) Election cycle. The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has named Ilisa Bernstein, PharmD, JD, FAPhA, as its new Senior Vice President of Pharmacy Practice and Government Affairs, effective October 14. Bernstein will be responsible for leading implementation of the association’s strategies related to professional affairs, pharmacy practice, advocacy, and government affairs.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) is deeply saddened by the horrific mass shootings that occurred over the weekend in Texas and Ohio where at least 31 people were killed. As an organization representing a profession that provides health care and support for communities and citizens around the country, APhA condemns any act of violence. APhA President Bradley P.
