In response to rapid changes in pharmacy practice models and a changing and evolving health care system that impacting the well-being of the nation’s pharmacists, 85 individuals representing pharmacists and employers from across practice settings, schools and colleges of pharmacy, regulators, accreditors, and professional organizations have agreed to a set of 50 recommendations to address critical issues related to pharmacist well-being.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has announced that it is launching the Well-Being Index, a validated screening tool invented by the Mayo Clinic to evaluate fatigue, depression, burnout, anxiety/stress, and mental/physical quality of life. The Well-Being Index represents one of the many efforts APhA has undertaken in its commitment to address pharmacist burnout and pave the way for real opportunities to improve the well-being and resiliency of pharmacists and pharmacy personnel.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) congratulates Janet P. Engle, PharmD, PhD (Hon), FAPhA, FCCP, FNAP, on being named the new Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. ACPE announced today that Dr. Engle will begin her new leadership role in September 2019.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) enthusiastically supports prioritizing tobacco cessation as a health goal for Americans and, specifically, for uniformed service members. Today, the Surgeons General of the United States and U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force released a statement on how tobacco product use threatens military readiness.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) today announced the results of elections for the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APhA-APPM), APhA-APPM Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science (APhA-APRS). The newly elected APhA-APPM and APhA-APRS Officers will be installed at the 167th APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, DC, March 20-23, 2020. APhA-APPM SIG leaders will assume their new leadership roles immediately.

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) today announced the election of Sandra Leal, PharmD, MPH, FAPhA, CDE of Tucson, AZ, as 2020–2021 APhA President-elect. Leal will succeed Michael D. Hogue, of Yucaipa, CA, to the office of APhA President on March 15, 2021, at the conclusion of the 2021 APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Los Angeles, CA.

As today marks the beginning of Mental Health Month in the U.S., Walgreens announces a unique collaboration with the National Council for Behavioral Health (National Council) and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), to provide Mental Health First Aid training for many Walgreens pharmacists and team members.

During its 2019 Annual Meeting & Exposition (APhA2019) in Seattle last month, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) raised over $9,000 for Mary’s Place, an organization that helps homeless women, children, and families come inside from the streets and into permanent housing. Proceeds for Mary’s Place were raised from attendee and exhibitor donations as well as from the sale of t-shirts.
