The reliability, quality and safety of our nation’s drug supply chain are essential to the nation’s security and health and well-being of the American public. Therefore, we welcome comprehensive federal efforts to improve the state of our drug supply chain, particularly at a time when our health care system is under extraordinary stress.

As part of ongoing efforts to help curb our nation’s opioid epidemic, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has collaborated with Walmart to offer a free online training program on opioid stewardship to all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians around the country.  The new resource for pharmacists is being launched at a time when parts of the country are experiencing increased opioid-related overdoses as access to social and treatment networks are disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Citing the continued rise in the numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths, the Board of Trustees of the American Pharmacists Association today urged the American public to take the simple actions that save lives: “Wash your hands often, avoid close contact through physical distancing, and wear a face covering.”

In a letter delivered today to the majority and minority leaders of Congress, the American Pharmacists Association requested immediate action to address the growing need to expand COVID-19 testing and immunization services by providing all pharmacists with temporary provider status in Medicare Part B.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), the nation’s leading certifying organization for pharmacy technicians, is pleased to announce a collaboration with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) to provide pharmacy technician credentialing in immunization delivery to those completing the APhA/Washington State University Pharmacy-Based Immunization Administration by Pharmacy Technicians program. 

The APhA Board of Trustees has taken a critical next step in addressing structural racism in pharmacy by appointing a diverse group of APhA members to provide input and guidance to the APhA Board and staff. The task force will recommend actions driving short- and long-term strategies to eliminate racism, discrimination, injustice, and the marginalization of individuals within the profession and communities that APhA members serve.

On June 15, the chief executives of the American Pharmacists Association and the National Community Pharmacists Association send the following letter to the editors of the Wall Street strongly objecting to the Journal’s June 12 editorial, “Letting the Docs Dispense.”

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and APhA Foundation, today, joined 20 other organizations comprised of patients, healthcare providers, public health, payers and purchasers, in support of the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention’s Value & Access Initiative by signing a Joint Policy Statement, including recommendations that will expand access to care options for patients nationwide, especially in underserved or otherwise vulnerable populations.
