Activity Preview: The expansion of pharmacy-based immunization services has had a dramatic impact on improving immunization rates, and the integration of pharmacy technicians to support pharmacists has become integral to the success of these programs. This CPE activity discusses how pharmacy technicians can bring awareness to patients about vaccine availability, contribute to vaccine access, and aid in immunization service delivery.

Supporting Access and Delivery of Pharmacy-based Immunization Services: Roles for Pharmacy Technicians

Activity Preview: Pharmacy-based immunization programs must be run efficiently to be successful. Pharmacy technicians can perform many tasks that facilitate patient access to services and fill gaps in practice that do not require the professional clinical judgment of a pharmacist.  This training reviews how pharmacy technicians can facilitate patient access to immunization services and fill gaps in practice, including; collecting, patient information, vaccine preparation, administration documentation, billing and insurance processing, and organizing vaccine clinics.

Vaccine Inventory, Storage and Handling: Roles for Pharmacy Technicians

Activity Preview: Pharmacy technicians can play critical roles in managing all the supplies that are required for a pharmacy-based immunization program. This training focuses on roles for pharmacy technicians in supporting pharmacy-based immunization services, including managing the inventory of vaccines and supplies, ordering new vaccines and supplies when needed, and ensuring that vaccines are stored and handled correctly.
