Nominations requested for IOM committee on end-of-life care

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) is looking for experts to be considered for a study committee called the Committee on Transforming End-of-Life Care. If you are a pharmacist who is passionate about this important area of practice, please consider submitting your requested information. And let us know.

Following is information from the IOM notice:

The overall objective of the project is to advance policies to improve the care that individuals and families receive at the end of life through alignment with individual values and preferences and to stimulate a national conversation with individuals, families, and communities on improving the way we approach death.

Experts in the fields of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work, health care administration, pastoral care and other health care fields; health care finance; palliative and end-of-life care research; communication and media; patient advocacy and community-based support and caregiving; health law and biomedical ethics; public policy; and health education are needed for the committee.

Please provide by Monday, September 24, 2012, names of any persons you think the IOM should consider for this important task.

Suggestions are sought for qualified individuals in all sectors of the scientific and technical community. Service on the study committee is open to scientists and other experts working for a government agency or other sponsor of this project if (1) they have relevant scientific and technical expertise needed to accomplish the committee’s task, and (2) their service will not appear to compromise the independence and objectivity of the study.

The IOM is committed to increasing the participation of under-represented minorities in all phases of its work. The excellence of the members of its study committees is crucial to its work.
