Serving as an APhA-ASP National Officer is a rewarding experience, both professionally and personally. Leaders who choose to serve their profession as an APhA-ASP National Officer have the personal satisfaction of knowing that they represent over 30,000 student pharmacists within the national professional organization. Each year, the APhA-ASP House of Delegates elects the following national officers to lead the Academy:

  • APhA-ASP National President-elect (2-year term*)
  • APhA-ASP National Member-at-large (1-year term**)
  • APhA-ASP Speaker of the House (1-year term)

*The APhA-ASP National President-elect serves in officer for two years, the first year as APhA-ASP National President-elect and the second year as APhA-ASP National President.
**Two APhA-ASP National Members-at-large are elected annually.

For a complete listing of the APhA-ASP National Officer Election Rules and Regulations & Position Descriptions and APhA-ASP House of Delegates Rules of Procedure (See HOD Rule 4 for Elections), please visit the above links. Please note that due to the cancellation of the APhA2021 Annual Meeting and move to a virtual format, several of the traditional election processes and procedures have been modified to accommodate the virtual election this year. For questions regarding the APhA-ASP National Officer Election Process, please contact Carly Harsha, PharmD, APhA Senior Manager of Student Development (charsha@aphanet.org).

APhA-ASP Nominating Committee & Slate of Candidates

  • Each APhA-ASP National Officer candidate will meet with the APhA-ASP National Nominating Committee on Saturday, March 6. The Nominating Committee is charged with interviewing the candidates (individually) for national office and developing a slate of up to two candidates for each APhA-ASP National Office. The Nominating Committee is comprised of one representative from each of the eight APhA-ASP Regions, a chair, and ex-officio chair (the immediate-past APhA-ASP National President).
  • The APhA-ASP Nominating Committee will meet in closed session after reviewing the candidates’ interview question recordings and speech to determine the official slate of APhA-ASP National Officers. The slate shall consist of two candidates for each of the offices of National President-elect, National Members-at-large (4 total if applicable), and Speaker of the House. Slated individuals represent candidates, in the committee’s opinion, that are the most qualified and most likely to be successful APhA-ASP National Officers.
  • The ability for National Officer candidates (not slated by the Nominating Committee) to be nominated from the floor and placed on the online ballot has been waived for 2021. Historically, the vast majority of candidates running for national office receive a majority vote to be placed on the ballot. In addition, given the virtual nature of this process and new voting online procedure, the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee, with the review and support of the APhA-ASP Parliamentarian, has made the decision that all candidates be placed on the ballot.
