The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) is the largest association of pharmacists in the United States and is the only organization advancing the entire pharmacy profession. Our expert staff, and strong volunteer leadership, including many experienced pharmacists, allow us to deliver vital leadership to help pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians find success and satisfaction in their work, while advocating for changes that benefit them and their patients. 

The health care landscape is changing rapidly, and it is crucial that the voice of the pharmacy profession is heard. At the federal level, our representatives are constantly receiving information on new proposals and legislative requests on a wide variety of topics. These include media, trade, and professional associations, public interest groups, law firms, labor unions, and businesses, among others.  

With health care being at the forefront of federal-level policy discussions, decisions, and action taken by Congress will affect pharmacists and the patients we serve. We must have a voice in the legislative process. Grassroots advocacy is needed now more than ever to make that happen. The importance of individual pharmacists, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians speaking up to advocate on behalf of our profession cannot be overstated.  

At the national level, APhA’s Government Affairs team maintains a regular presence in Congress—meeting with legislators, monitoring Congressional committees, and seeking to positively impact the profession through our daily efforts on Capitol Hill. However, the efforts made by our Washington, DC, staff are most effective when combined with those by constituent pharmacists, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians.
