For those interested in supporting the plight of U.S. citizens in Puerto Rico, we have some information.

I recently reached out to the dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Puerto Rico, Wanda Maldonado, BSPharm, PharmD, to ask how we can help contribute to the recovery efforts. She told me that while the School of Pharmacy fared pretty well, as you can imagine, the lives of the folks who live there have been severely disrupted.

Wanda shared with me some opportunities to support P4 students at University of Puerto Rico School of Pharmacy, who will be relocating to mainland pharmacy schools to complete their advanced professional practice experiences (APPEs) to graduate. Your support will help to improve their chances of graduating on time by easing the costs of travel and housing during these 4–6 week rotations.

I also understand that several U.S. pharmacy schools are creating space to accommodate the continuation of PR students’ training. Our hats are off to them!

Support is especially crucial as these students are grappling with the financial hardships associated with losing their homes and family businesses to Hurricane Maria’s destruction and the costs of relocating to the U.S. mainland to complete their degree.
