Senate begins debate on compounding bill … vote expected shortly

The Senate has begun debate on the Drug Quality and Security Act (H.R. 3204), which most of pharmacy knows as the compounding and track and trace legislation. The bill is expected to pass in the next day or two so I wanted to take a moment to thank those who worked so hard to advance this legislation for the benefit of our patients.

As I have previously mentioned, since Congress started working on this issue in November of last year, APhA has been heavily involved in the drafting of this legislation through dozens and dozens of meetings, phone calls, and e-mails. We were especially pleased when Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, specifically recognized and thanked APhA for our support of the legislation in his remarks on the Senate floor. Thank you to the House and Senate for making compounding and track trace a priority!
