Pharmacy loses a pioneer

On Wednesday of this week, APhA’s Executive Office sadly learned of the passing of one of pharmacy’s true trailblazers. Mary Munson Runge, the first woman and first African American to be elected APhA President, passed away after a long period of declining health.

We have not been able to locate an online obituary yet, but it is my understanding that a memorial service will be held in the next few weeks. This will allow more time for people who wish to attend to make their plans. This is a real loss for pharmacy. Please keep Mary’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

Once we have more information on her obituary and memorial service, I will share that news with you. Meanwhile, we have posted an obituary on pharmacist.com.
