Pharmacy community mourns the passing of Bob Johnson

Today we got the sad news that one of the greats in American pharmacy passed away. Bob Johnson passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning. We offer our sympathies and prayers to his wife, Tina, and his family.

Bob was our friend and longtime Michigan and California state pharmacy association executive. He was a former APhA Board member, Remington Honor Medalist, and a mentor to me when I joined the APhA staff the first time in 1987— early in my Association career.

I am so glad I visited Bob and Tina at their home last year. We spent several hours over a nice dinner and wine as I pumped him for stories and history in the first person.

We will follow up with more information as it unfolds. Please keep Tina and the Johnson family in your prayers. More information will be forthcoming regarding how to send condolences to the family.

Since very early this morning when Tom Temple shared the news with me, I’ve received an outpouring of outreach from colleagues and friends who share this loss with Bob’s family.

From Lowell Anderson: Bob was one of the giants in my professional life.  In many issues, a mentor to me.

Mike Pavlovich: We've lost a great one.

Ralph Saroyan: Bob was a strong supporter of Phi Delta Chi fraternity and served on the inaugural board of the Pharmacy Leadership and Education Institute. He was an invaluable resource to me during my earlier years as Grand President. … The profession and fraternity lost a GIANT this morning. Please keep his wife, Tina, and his two sons in your thoughts and prayers.
