Pharmacists poised for expanded role on team, Forbes says

The latest consumer media outlet to support pharmacists’ “potential for an expanded role as a key member of the healthcare team” is Forbes.com. On April 10, Forbes published an article, “Fixing Healthcare Can Be As Close As Your Neighborhood Pharmacy,” for which our staff provided results from APhA’s 2013 consumer survey and additional information.

The consumer survey showed 70% of consumers would go to a pharmacist for health services if their insurance covered them, and 21% of that 70% would still go to a pharmacist even if they had to pay $75 out of pocket. “These percentages suggest that patients would both trust and engage pharmacists for medical care,” the journalist wrote. “Pharmacists can play a valuable role working with physicians and other providers to optimize medication therapy, deliver patient-centered care, and assist in managing acute and chronic conditions.”
