Pharmacist–economist dies in car crash

The pharmacy and health economics communities suffered a tragic loss on Sunday morning when Judy Shinogle was killed in a head-on crash between Washington and Baltimore.

Judy was a PhD health economist from Johns Hopkins University with whom I had the privilege to work more than 20 years ago at APhA. As a recent graduate from the University of Kansas College of Pharmacy, she was APhA's Executive Resident in 1988–89 and served as our Associate Director of Practice Affairs in 1989–91. While working at the Congressional Budget Office over the following 10 years, Judy also earned her master's degree in health policy and management from the Harvard School of Public Health and her doctoral degree in in public health economics from Johns Hopkins University.

Judy was currently a Senior Research Associate at the Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

We're just learning of the accident this morning, but will share details as they unfold. For now, let's pray for Judy and her family.
