Georgia pharmacist poised for congressional seat

Last night, state Sen. Buddy Carter, a community pharmacist, emerged victorious over surgeon Bob Johnson in a Republican runoff for a congressional seat in Georgia’s First Congressional District.

I’d like to congratulate Buddy on his 53%–46% victory. This isn’t just a win for Buddy, it’s a win for the profession of pharmacy too. As we continue our campaign to afford Medicare beneficiaries access and coverage for pharmacists’ services, having a pharmacist in Congress will certainly help inform congressional perspectives.

APhA is a supporter of Buddy. He is a longtime practicing community pharmacist and recently provided a keynote this spring at APhA2014 in Orlando where he also received the APhA Hubert H. Humphrey Award for his advocacy work.

On behalf of America’s pharmacists, we wish Buddy the best of luck as he continues his climb up Capitol Hill. It’s time for a pharmacist to be in Congress, so let’s all support his efforts!
