New pharmacy set to open in Berryville, VA!

A new chapter in pharmacy history begins today when Patricia White and her mother, Laura LaFontaine White, open a community pharmacy in Berryville, VA. While it is always a story in American towns and cities when a new pharmacy opens, this one is more special than most. You see, the Whites are part of a story that goes back to the early 1960s when this daughter and wife were part of a fundamental shift in how pharmacists would practice for generations to come.

I remember chatting with Eugene White just 3 to 4 years ago about how he began. He closed his soda fountain in Berryville at White’s Pharmacy and implemented patient profiles and other (at the time) novel patient care services. He didn’t know what to expect, but was pleased that the reception was generally: “Why doesn’t everyone do it this way?”

Eugene White was a groundbreaking clinical pharmacist and 1978 Remington Medal winner. I had the pleasure to meet the White ladies when Eugene sadly passed away in 2011. His daughter and wife are opening Battletown Pharmacy in Berryville with hopes of carrying on the tradition of excellent patient care. The pharmacy profession wishes them all the best as they set up shop to care for the citizens of Berryville again!
