Leadership

Member of the APhA-ASP National Nominating Committee

Description
Nine student members are appointed by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee to serve on the APhA-ASP National Nominating Committee. The committee meets during the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. These members consist of one member from each region and the committee chair. The APhA-ASP Immediate Past President serves as an ex officio member of the committee. Appointments are made in January prior to the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. This committee observes the candidates at the Open Candidate Review and then interviews all the candidates during a closed Nominating Committee meeting. The Nominating Committee presents a slate of candidates at the Second Session of the APhA-ASP House of Delegates.

Responsibilities
Attendance at the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition and all related sessions during the meeting is required. Prior to Annual Meeting committee members receive email communications with documents to review in preparation for the meeting.

Policy

Member of the APhA-ASP Credentials Committee

Description:
Four student members are appointed to this committee by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee in January prior to the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. The Committee certifies Chapter Delegates to be seated and vote in the APhA-ASP House of Delegates. One member from the committee also serves as the Secretary of House and performs the Delegate roll call during the first House session.

APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition

Responsibilities:
Members of the APhA-ASP Credentials Committee must attend the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition and all required sessions during the meeting: APhA-ASP Delegate Orientation, APhA-ASP House of Delegates Set-up, and APhA-ASP House of Delegates (both sessions).

Member of the APhA-ASP New Business Review Committee

Description:
Nine student members are appointed by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee to serve on the APhA-ASP New Business Review Committee. The committee meets during the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. These members consist of one member from each region and the committee chair. The APhA-ASP Immediate Past Speaker of House serves as an ex-officio member of the committee. Appointments are made in January prior to the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. The purpose of the Committee is to review proposed policy submitted by Delegates to the APhA House of Delegates and recommend action on these items.

Members of the APhA-ASP New Business Review Committee must attend the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition and all required sessions during the meeting: APhA-ASP Open Hearing, committee meeting, and APhA-ASP House of Delegates (both sessions).

Member of the APhA New Business Review Committee

Description:
One student member serves on the committee. Potential members are identified and appointed by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee each year. The purpose of the Committee is to review proposed policy submitted by Delegates to the APhA House of Delegates and recommend action on these items. The Committee’s work is essential to the policy development process as it the first opportunity for new language to be reviewed by pharmacy peers prior to its introduction during the Final Session of the APhA House of Delegates at the APhA Annual Meeting.

Term Length:
9 Month Term from July through March

Responsibilities:
The Committee’s responsibilities include holding an Open Hearing before the Final Session of the APhA House of Delegates and an Executive Session to discuss the policy proposals and prepare the committee report.

Member of the APhA Policy Committee

Description:
One student member serves on the advisory board. Potential members are identified and appointed by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee each year. The APhA Policy Committee is charged with analyzing specific topics assigned by the Board of Trustees and proposing policy on those issues to the APhA House of Delegates. The committee is comprised of seven to ten APhA members from a variety of pharmacy specialties with specific professional and policy expertise.

Term Length:
9 Month Term from July through March

Responsibilities:
Committee members will meet in Washington, DC, over a weekend in October and all related sessions during the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition.

Member of the APhA Policy Review Committee

Description:
One student member serves on the advisory board. Potential members are identified and appointed by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee each year. The Policy Review process helps ensure that existing policy is relevant and reflects the opinion of the pharmacy community. Any existing policy will be subject to review every five years or less. Policy Review Committee is comprised of seven to ten APhA members.

Term Length:
9 Month Term from July through March

Responsibilities:
The Committee is charged with reviewing policies to determine if current policy statements should be retained, updated, archived, or rescinded. The Committee’s assignment is divided into two parts: review policy statements from the APhA Policy Manual and review current APhA Policy that is related to the policy topics assigned to APhA’s Policy Committee. The Committee’s recommendations are considered and voted on by the House.  In order to accomplish their work, the Committee will initially meet via conference call in the fall to complete its work via email. Committee members are expected to participate in the various committee conference calls throughout the year as scheduled by the APhA Speaker of the House and Committee Chair.

Practice

Member of the APhA Community Pharmacy Residency Panel

Description:
One student member serves on the advisory board. Potential members are identified and appointed by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee in January each year. Committee serves to guide APhA’s support of Community Pharmacy Residency Programs.

1 Year Term from March through March

Monthly to bimonthly conference calls

Publications

Member of the Student Pharmacist Editorial Advisory Board (EAB)

Description:
Eight APhA-ASP members (one from each region) are appointed to the Editorial Advisory Board of Student Pharmacist to provide feedback to the publication’s editors, with the goal of keeping the magazine as relevant and useful as possible to its target readers. Members also participate in a committee meeting during the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. Members are selected in January by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee and Editor of Student Pharmacist and approved by the APhA Board of Trustees. The term of membership is one year.

Term Length:
1 Year Term from March through March

Responsibilities:
•    Frequent communication about specific articles. Student Pharmacist editors will communicate with EAB members throughout the year, asking for advice on specific articles and cover story ideas for upcoming issues.
•    Issue critiques. Periodically, EAB members will be asked to provide critiques of an issue following publication, detailing what worked, what didn’t, and what could have been better.
•    Authorship. EAB members will provide recommendations for authors and may submit their own articles for consideration.
•    Annual Editorial Advisory Board Meeting. This meeting gives EAB members and Student Pharmacist editors the opportunity to review and discuss global issues for the publication, such as broad coverage areas that need to be expanded, format changes, and special content that would be useful to readers.

Member of the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association Editorial Advisory Board

Description:
One student member serves on the advisory board. Potential members are identified and appointed by the APhA-ASP National Executive Committee in January each year.

Resources for Members

Member of the APhA Books and Electronic Products Advisory Committee

Description:
The Books and Electronic Products Editorial Advisory Board provides input and expertise to ensure that APhA publishes books and digital products for which there is a clear need. The Board has nine members.  One of the members is a P4 (last professional year) student and one is a new practitioner and they serve a two-year term.  The first year on the EAB is as a P4 student; the second year as a new practitioner. Members participate a virtual meeting last several hours in the fall and a live 3-hour meeting/luncheon on the Friday of the APhA Annual Meeting.

Term Length:
Two years (one year as a student and one year as a new practitioner)

Responsibilities:
•    Advise APhA staff on pharmacy education curriculum changes, trends in pharmacy education and practice, and preferable formats for published resources (print, Web, mobile).
•    Recommend new books or electronic products that, as a result, are needed by pharmacists, student pharmacists, or pharmacy technicians
•    Recommend outstanding prospective authors and, if you know the prospective author, assist APhA staff in encouraging the person to publish with APhA
•    Review book proposals and book manuscripts or recommend qualified peer reviewers who can do so
•    Provide timely opinions on concise issues to APhA staff  when contacted by phone or email

Ad-Hoc Positions
