Remembering the Loss of a Member of Our APhA Family

Dear APhA Family,

As we prepare to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, we are saddened by the tragic news of yesterday's senseless shootings at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, where three victims were killed. One of our own, Dr. Dayna Less, PharmD, a 25-year-old PGY1 pharmacy resident, recent graduate of Purdue University College of Pharmacy, and an APhA member, was among those killed.

While there is no consolation for her death, Dayna’s family released a statement to WGN-TV in Chicago that sheds light on who Dayna was as a person: “The family of Dayna wants to let everyone know that she should not be remembered as a victim, but as a beautiful daughter who overcame adversity and dared to succeed in a tragic world.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dayna's family and loved ones, as well as those of the other victims, physician Tamara O'Neal and Officer Samuel Jimenez.

The profession of pharmacy is a close knit family, and we are all heartbroken by this loss.

Sincerely,

APhA CEO Thomas E. Menighan, BSPharm, MBA, ScD (Hon), FAPhA.
