United States Representative Buddy Carter Recognizes Importance of American Pharmacists Month

The observance of October as American Pharmacists Month recognizes the impact that pharmacists have on improving medication use and advancing patient care throughout all practice settings within the pharmacy profession. In honor of the month, United States Representative Earl L. “Buddy” Carter, BSPharm (R-GA) took to the floor of the House of Representatives recently to promote awareness of the enhanced roles pharmacists have in today’s health care system.

“During October, we recognize the pharmacists across America who work each day to guarantee that Americans have access to important and often life-saving medications,” said Rep. Carter. “As the only pharmacist in Congress, I'm proud to recognize the work that pharmacists across America are doing to ensure our nation's health.”

In addition to highlighting many of the services pharmacists are providing patients daily, Rep. Carter noted that “pharmacists are considered one of the top three most trusted professionals in America.”

Representative Carter also encouraged everyone to use American Pharmacists Month as an opportunity to focus on being healthier and getting to know their pharmacist. “During this month, as well as throughout the year, I encourage everyone to visit your pharmacist, ask questions about your prescriptions, receive advice about preventive care and simply get to know the person who provides your medicine and helps to keep you healthy.”

In other efforts to recognize the importance of American Pharmacists Month, Rep. Carter wrote an op-ed that will run in the October edition of the American Pharmacists Association’s (APhA) Pharmacy Today publication.
