Heroes and leaders give their all after hurricanes

There’s a great quote from actor and director Christopher Reeve that resonates for so many in the face of recent events: “I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”

We see heroism among “ordinary” pharmacists. We saw it in Texas, Florida, and surrounding states in the aftermaths of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. These pharmacists ran toward danger to come to the aid of devastated residents, serving hot meals, maintaining medication supply distribution, offering medication services, and delivering health care along with other team members to hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals. They deployed mobile pharmacies to disaster relief units, set up inventory to take with them, got licensing in place, and recruited the employees needed to help. And then, they did what they always do: give their all to care for patients and communities.

I’m amazed at the lengths these pharmacists went to serve patients and communities when they were needed the most. Thank you for all you did! You are extraordinary heroes and leaders.
